NORTH CAROLINA SCHOOL OF SCIENCE & MATHEMATICS Care Package

Objective/Scope: Allieway was tasked to conceive of and fulfill alumni care packages from the Foundation, roughly corresponding with final exams. The “College Care Package Program” sends packages once students settle into college in the fall semester. This reminds them that their NCSSM community is still behind them rooting them on in the next stage of their academic journey. The care package serves to both send encouragement to students as they adjust to a new environment and keep them connected to NCSSM.

This donor cultivation project strengthened engagement with a key stakeholder group and incentivized upholding the financial commitment made as part of the “Club ‘23” Alumni Donor cohort.

Tasks/Actions:

• Source stand-out mailer packaging for visual appeal and economically conservative shipping cost.
• Designed a bright, appealing, branded custom shipping label with merged student addresses.
• Select memorable and useful components to contribute to the objective of encouraging pledge fulfillment through emotional connection.
• Encourage posting of  unboxing experience or enjoyment of the gift.
• Fulfill appealing packaging assembly of 120 care packages, oversee distribution list vetting and updates and mail merge, and handle shipping.

Components

• Unstable Unicorns game featuring unicorns mascot – Included to remind students of the Durham campus mascot and facilitate playful connection with new friends to combat homesickness. Made by a young team of entrepreneurs at a kickstarter-funded company.
• Burt’s Bees “Mobius Mint” lip balm with physics reference – The physics term pays homage to students’ academic talents. Lip balm encourages self-care during stressful exams. Burt’s Bees is a North Carolina company based in Durham, NC near the original campus location.
• Smart Pop popcorn and Think energy bars – Brain food snacks tap into intelligence with clever names. Fuels late night studying.
• NCSSM laptop sticker – Sticker facilitates publicly displaying pride in high school experience even after graduation.
• Rainbow Nerds candy – Cheery candy package elicits happy memories of childhood. Sweet treat to lift spirits.
• Note from Chancellor Roberts – Handwritten note from school leader demonstrates continued support and care from the NCSSM community.
